This is a good question since it always comes down to what type you like and what application you are using it for. On the interior applications almost all types of stone will work. Granites, Marble, Slates, Quartzite and so on.
If you are doing an outdoor project you will want to take into account the weather(especially winters) to see if the stone is durable enough to survive freeze thaw cycles in your area. Ask us about our stone and the application.
There are several different types of sealers on the market. Some will enhance the colour of stone while offering stain resistance but there are also some sealers deigned to protect the stone from stains leaving the origional look of the stone untouched. Check to see which type you used.
Normally if you have a contractor install the stone they would be responsible for
cleaning up, but check your contract to be sure that it says they will do a complete job
to industry standards. If the contract was time and materials, it may not be as clear.
The salt in a swimming pool can be quite destructive to certain types of stone. I would recommend a granite or granite like stone . This will give you the strength and low absorbtion rate desireable in this type of installation. It is still advisable to use a good quality sealer on the coping as well to ensure the longevity of your investment.
New stonework should be sealed after it is thoroughly cleaned and dry. If the stone is on concrete or mortar it is adviseable to wait approximately 28 days for all the moisture under the stone to come out. If it is a dry laid application, it can be sealed as soon as it is clean and dry.
